Few posters from 1917 call on men to join the Army, Navy, and Marines in a single appeal, but this color lithograph does so under the words "Uphold our honor--Fight for us." Printed in New York by the Hegeman Printing Company, it dates from the first year of American involvement in the First World War, which the United States entered in April 1917. Recruiting posters of that period often linked enlistment to personal honor and national duty, and the American flag, which the record lists among its subjects, was a standard symbol for that message.
