A December 15, 1922 glass negative labeled "Miss Jean Christie" comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that photographed many people and events in the capital in the early twentieth century. The title was supplied by the company on the negative or its sleeve and has not been verified, so the sitter's identity rests on that label alone. The collection reached the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Viewers should note the streaks and blemishes on the glass, which come from natural deterioration of the original coatings rather than from the scene itself.
