Its German title, *Kriegsanleihetag der Österreichischen Bühnen*, announces a War Bond Day organized by Austria's theaters in 1917, when the Habsburg monarchy was still fighting on several fronts. Governments on both sides sold war loans to ordinary citizens to help pay for the fighting, and campaigns like this one drew on well-known stage performers to fill theaters and lend the appeal a sense of national duty. This color lithograph by Th. Fasche pairs the world of the stage with war finance, showing how wartime persuasion relied on public figures and familiar cultural institutions.
