This illustrated map charts the cultural resources along the Natchez Trace Parkway, the route that runs roughly 440 miles from Natchez, Mississippi, to Nashville, Tennessee. Its markers point to the places where people have lived, traveled, and traded along the corridor, from ancient Native American sites to 19th-century inns and burial grounds. The road follows the path of older trails that Indigenous peoples and later settlers used, and the Park Service laid out the modern parkway in stages through the mid-20th century. Maps like this one helped visitors see that the scenic drive is also a long record of human history.
