A pen-and-ink panel sheet titled *Motorist Experience* reflects the Natchez Trace Parkway's purpose as a road meant to be seen slowly from behind the wheel. The parkway follows a corridor that Indigenous peoples, including the Chickasaw and Choctaw, traveled for generations, and later carried settlers and traders between the Mississippi River and Nashville and Natchez. Construction began in the late 1930s under New Deal programs and continued in stages for decades, with the final section opening in 2005. The drawing's title points to the parkway's central idea: a scenic drive past a long corridor of history rather than a route to hurry along.
