Few bridges are as recognizable as the Ponte Vecchio, the medieval span that carries shops over the Arno in Florence. This etching is the first plate in a series of Italian views, and its pencil signature and 1925 date place it in the years between the world wars, when Italian cities were a popular subject for printmakers. The sheet entered the Library of Congress as a gift, and it bears the collection mark of an earlier owner, Dorothy Noyes Arms.
