Low Memorial Library is the domed centerpiece of Columbia University's Morningside Heights campus, and this panoramic view takes in its full classical façade and the open plaza that leads up to it. The building was designed by McKim, Mead & White and completed in 1897, when it was the university's main library and the Beaux-Arts ideal of a monumental campus was taking hold across the country. Its great steps and Roman-style rotunda made it a model for academic architecture in the city, and the wide format brings out how deliberately the surrounding grounds were laid out around it.
