A portrait of a woman identified as Miss Leita Adams, though the title comes from unverified data the National Photo Company wrote on its negatives or sleeves, so the name may not be confirmed. The image is a 4 by 5 inch glass negative dated to roughly 1918 to 1920, based on other negatives in the same group. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio active in Washington, D.C., made a large body of portraits and street and event views in the early twentieth century, and its glass plates were later donated to the Library of Congress. Visible streaks and blemishes come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coatings.
