The text on this 1969 color poster makes the argument itself: "You can jail a revolutionary, but you can't jail the revolution," with a series of paired lines about freedom fighters and liberators. The Black Panther Party, founded in Oakland in 1966, faced heavy police pressure by 1969, with members arrested in large numbers and several killed in clashes with police. Chicago officers' fatal raid on Party leader Fred Hampton that December made that danger concrete for many activists. Gary Yanker's collection *Prop Art*, published in New York in 1972, included posters like this one and places them within the wider protest graphics of the decade.
