The record places this glass negative at the Times at 3311 22nd Street Northeast in Washington, D.C., though that title was supplied by the National Photo Company and has not been independently verified. The company worked in the city during the early decades of the twentieth century, producing a large body of street scenes and business views, and this plate, dated to about 1920 from neighboring negatives in the same range, belongs to that effort. Streaks and other blemishes on the glass come from deterioration in the original coating, which affects the tones and fine detail a viewer can see. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the collection in 1947.
