This print shows the University of Michigan, the public university whose campus is in Ann Arbor. The institution was founded in Detroit in 1817 and moved to Ann Arbor in 1837, and it had grown into one of the leading universities in the Midwest by the 1870s. The shelflist card links the print to the firm Duval & Hunter, but that attribution is unverified, so the record should be read with that caveat in mind.
