Hutson's lithograph *Koppers Coke* shows the coke industry, a process in which coal is baked in ovens until it becomes the hard, porous fuel that heated the blast furnaces of American steel mills. The print is dated 1932, the early Depression years, when many American artists turned to industrial labor and plant scenes as subjects. Its title names the Koppers company, whose by-product coke ovens were a notable part of the industrial landscape of that period. The print is signed and dated in pencil by the artist, and the Library of Congress holds it in its collection of American prints from the 1930s.
