Dürer's skill with the knife shows clearly in this Last Supper, where the long table, the room and the figures around Christ are built from fine, dense parallel lines. He cut the woodblocks himself, and this sheet belongs to The Great Passion, a set of twelve woodcuts dated 1510 and published in Nuremberg in 1511. Dürer was among the first artists to make large illustrated sequences like this one reach a broad public, since the prints were sold as a book with Latin text on the reverse of each page.
