This glass negative from the National Photo Company Collection is dated February 16, 1923, and its title names a Carnegie Institute basketball team. That name was written on the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified. Basketball was still a young sport in the early 1920s, and teams of that period typically wore sturdy cotton uniforms and laced leather shoes. The negative shows streaks and blemishes from the gradual deterioration of its original coating, a common condition in plates of this age that gives the image a faintly mottled look.
