Bullfighting was an unusual attraction for an American Wild West show, and this poster puts it front and center. Gordon W. Lillie, who performed as Pawnee Bill, ran a show that competed with Buffalo Bill's and relied on dramatic novelty acts to draw crowds. The Strobridge Litho. Co. of Cincinnati and New York was one of the leading makers of circus lithographs in the 1890s, and its bold colors and crowded layout reflect the style of traveling-show advertising of the period.
