The panoramic view centers on the Electric Tower, the illuminated landmark of the Pan-American Exposition, which opened in Buffalo in May 1901 on the grounds of a former Delaware Park site. Its nighttime lighting drew large crowds and made the tower the fair's signature image. The exposition closed early that September after President William McKinley was shot at the fairgrounds and died days later. The record credits the photograph's copyright to C.D. Arnold, and its date and caption details are unverified, so the wider view is best read as a record of the fair's layout during its brief run.
