The title's verse, "November XI month, hath xxx days," is a variant of the old mnemonic that taught children and households how many days each month had. Printed in 1770, when calendars and almanacs were among the most widely read printed matter in the colonies and Britain, it belongs to a tradition of monthly verses paired with pictures of the labor or customs of each season. Fall images in that tradition often showed harvest, preparing stores for winter, and the shortening days. Because the record gives only the title and date, the picture's figures and details are best seen directly, and the rhyme itself offers a useful clue to the purpose of the print.
