Among the cyanotypes on this board, this pinhole landscape stands out for how it was made: a camera with no lens, just a tiny opening that lets light reach the sensitized paper. Pinhole views typically have soft detail and great depth of field, which sets them apart from lens-made pictures. The cyanotype process, introduced by English scientist John Herschel in 1842, produces the characteristic blue tones. The subject is trees, and the record notes the print was a gift from J.S. Farnsworth in 1952, though its date of creation is unknown.
