This view of the deck of Robert Peary's ship *Roosevelt*, taken at New London, Connecticut, shows the vessel built for his Arctic expeditions. Theodore Roosevelt, who supported Peary's polar work, lent his name to the ship. The George Grantham Bain Collection, a body of news photographs from the Bain News Service, holds the glass negative, but the record gives no date, and the title rests on unverified caption information.
