Its title, "Loco Foco triumphal honors," points to the 1844 presidential campaign, when the Loco Focos, a radical wing of New York Democrats, were at their most visible. The print is a lithograph by H. Bucholzer, printed and colored by James Baillie of Spruce Street in New York, and it was deposited for copyright on July 5, 1844. Its subjects include James K. Polk and George M. Dallas, the Democratic ticket that year, along with John Tyler, the incumbent president, and the Equal Rights Party. Political cartoons of this period often used such honors and processions to comment on party rivalry, so the print is a useful record of how partisan politics was pictured in that election.
