The title names a Stephenson and places this view in Cleveland in 1924, but the record does not say who Stephenson was, and the label comes from the National Photo Company's notes rather than independent checking. The firm, based in Washington, produced large numbers of commercial views of American cities in the early twentieth century, and this glass negative came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Because the coatings on glass plates break down over time, streaks and blemishes like those noted here can show up in prints made from them.
