Unglazed ceramic tile, laid at 2 3/16 inches, carries through this drawing from the dining area into the kitchen and on to the utility space beyond. The sheet shows the kitchen-dining area of Case Study House No. 8, the Eames House that Charles Eames designed for the Case Study House program sponsored by John Entenza, editor of *Arts & Architecture* magazine. Drawn in graphite and collage around 1948, it shows how one floor material could tie together several connected rooms. The house, in Pacific Palisades, was completed in 1949 and became one of the best-known examples of postwar modern domestic design.
