Unlike the many views of Washington monuments in the National Photo Company files, this print records people at work: a group of office staff identified only as the Holy Name office. The catalog links it to women's employment in the city during the 1920s, a decade when the federal government and the offices serving it drew large numbers of women into clerical and typing jobs. The studio, a commercial firm, photographed Washington's streets, buildings and residents from the early 1900s through the 1920s. The catalog also notes discoloration, so the tones may differ from the original.
