A group of matadors in full dress fills this color lithograph, which is marked "No. 4" and signed on the stone. The figures wear the embroidered jackets, close-fitting trousers, and montera hats of the bullfighter's costume, which set toreros apart both in the arena and on Madrid's streets. Lithographs like this one, made in the 1860s, were a popular way to record the figures and fashions that drew visitors to Spain's bullfights, and the print's close attention to dress makes it a useful record of how bullfighters presented themselves at the time.
