This lithograph sets the newly inaugurated President Grover Cleveland among his cabinet officers, a group portrait that would have been popular with the public in the mid-1880s. Cleveland took office in March 1885 as the first Democrat elected president since before the Civil War, so a print like this served as a introduction to the new administration's leadership. The sheet was produced by the Forbes Company of Boston, a firm known for commercial lithography, and it was registered for copyright by D.S. Clarke, which is typical of the portrait prints sold to a general audience in that decade.
