The poster's headline promises "facts for Canadians who enlist for overseas service," and its line "Kitchener wants more Canadians!" invokes Lord Kitchener, the British secretary of state for war, whose image had become a recruiting symbol across the empire. Printed in Toronto in 1915 by the Central Recruiting Committee of No. 2 Military Division, this color lithograph dates from a time when Canada raised its forces entirely through voluntary enlistment. Canadian units were taking heavy losses that year, and posters like this one aimed to keep reinforcements flowing to the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
