The record for this print gives only the title, *Thomas Jefferson*, and an associated name, Tiebout, from an older shelflist card whose details have not been verified, so its date and maker remain uncertain. Jefferson, the third president, served from 1801 to 1809 and was one of the most widely portrayed figures of his era. Engraved likenesses of him circulated in books, newspapers, and parlors in the early republic, often copied from paintings for a public eager to see its leaders. Many prints from that period were made without careful documentation, which is why their origins are often hard to trace.
