Two long-necked figures crowd a noodle shop customer here, their necks stretched into the stall's ordinary space, a comic twist on the shapeshifting yokai of Japanese folklore. The print comes from *Kyōsai hyakuzu*, a collection of sketches by the painter Kawanabe Kyōsai, who was known for lively, irreverent scenes of ghosts, monsters and everyday absurdity. The library dates it to about 1863, with a question mark, and it was published in Edo, now Tokyo. The humor depends on the uncanny breaking into a mundane setting, which shows in the bold color and quick outlines of the woodcut.
