Bullen Creek bridge carries the Natchez Trace Parkway over a small stream, one of many crossings that break up the long, wooded drive. The parkway follows the route of the old Natchez Trace, a footpath and packhorse road that traders, travelers and boatmen used for generations to link Natchez on the Mississippi River with Nashville. Like many of the parkway's bridges, it reflects the National Park Service's preference for designs that sit quietly in the forest rather than dominating it. The creek and the trees around it still look much as they would have to the travelers who once walked this route.
