This Cincinnati lithograph by Strobridge & Gerlach shows Washington in Masonic setting, placed beside Andrew Jackson and the Marquis de Lafayette, all three of whom were Freemasons. Washington was initiated into a lodge in Fredericksburg, Virginia, as a young man, and Lafayette joined a Paris lodge in the 1770s, so the print links the founders to a fraternal tradition that remained popular after the Civil War. Its imprint also names Pike's Opera House, a Cincinnati venue, and the color work and symbolism are worth examining for the Masonic emblems that frame the figures.
