Raisin drying racks stand among the vines in a Fresno, California vineyard, the detail that sets this view apart from the other agricultural scenes on this board. Around 1901, Fresno was the center of California's raisin industry, and growers spread freshly cut grapes on wooden trays or racks so the sun could dry them into fruit for market. The Detroit Publishing Company, which issued many views of American farms and regions for travel and promotion, produced this cyanotype, so it reflects the era's interest in showing the country's varied productive landscapes.
