This photograph records the day White House correspondents moved into new quarters in the Executive Offices in Washington, the building beside the White House. Dated September 27, 1929, it captures the press corps at a time when newspapers were paying closer attention to the presidency day by day. Underwood & Underwood, a New York firm known for news photography, made the image, which makes it a useful record of how reporters worked near the seat of government before a dedicated briefing room existed.
