The steamer C.R. Lockwood survives here as an 8 by 10 inch glass negative, a large format that commercial photographers favored around 1900 for the sharp detail it gave prints. The negative carries Detroit Publishing Company number 32349, and the firm sold its American views, including many of rivers, lakes and waterfront scenes, as souvenirs to travelers and collectors. The record dates the plate only to between 1890 and 1905 and does not name the vessel's route or builder, so it is best read as a document of steamboat traffic in those years. The negative came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
