A suffrage parade on October 23, 1915, is the event this glass negative is said to record, according to its caption. That date matches a large march up New York's Fifth Avenue in support of women's voting rights, held weeks before state voters rejected a suffrage amendment in November. The negative came from the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency whose pictures of marches, crowds and city life were sold to newspapers, so it shows how the movement was covered in the press as well as the marchers themselves.
