A bathroom at the Hillcrest Children's Center, on Nebraska Avenue in Northwest Washington, is the subject of this institutional view, which the Library of Congress dates to between 1927 and 1966. Hillcrest was a residential home for children, and photographs of its everyday spaces were often made to document how such institutions were run. Ordinary rooms like this one reveal the routines of washing and hygiene that shaped daily life in orphanages of the period. The print was made by a photographer named Schutz and is held in the library's Prints and Photographs Division.
