The title presents the sheet as a letter from St. James's, the London palace whose name stood for the king's government, addressed to Boston. It dates to 1774, the year Parliament answered the Boston Tea Party with a set of measures colonists called the Intolerable Acts, including the Boston Port Act, which closed the harbor to most trade. Broadsides like this were cheap, quickly printed sheets that passed through taverns and public places, carrying political argument to readers who could not afford pamphlets. The catalog record is brief and does not name the author or printer, but the piece shows how the ministry's dealings with Boston were being read and debated that year.
