Children tumbling out of bed to find their gifts is the moment this stereograph records, as the title "Just out of bed--Christmas morning" makes plain. B.W. Kilburn issued it around 1897 from Littleton, New Hampshire, where his firm produced stereo cards that viewers placed in a stereoscope to see in depth. Scenes of family life and holiday routine like this one were popular parlor entertainment in the 1890s. Kilburn's genre views were usually arranged for the camera, so the toys and children are posed rather than caught by chance.
