Hollenbeck Point, as the caption calls it, was singled out as the finest viewpoint along the canyon, and this c1906 print shows three people posed on a large rock at the edge. That emphasis on people is what sets it apart from the many broader panoramas of the Grand Canyon in the collection, since the figures give a sense of scale against the drop below. Around the turn of the twentieth century, the South Rim was becoming a destination for railroad travelers and early tourists, and photographers produced views like this to show visitors where to stand. The record comes from a caption card and is not fully verified, so the exact date and the identities of the figures remain uncertain.
