The record lists deer and automobiles as its main subjects, so this poster ties wildlife protection to the car-filled roads of the mid-1930s, when more Americans were driving into forests and parks. It was made under the Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, which produced silkscreen posters on public-service themes during the Depression. The attributed designer is John Wagner. A date stamp on the back, July 1940, shows the board was later filed within the National Park Service, which used such posters to promote conservation.
