Taken from Goat Island, this view looks across the Niagara River to Horseshoe Fall, the broad, curved cataract on the Canadian side of the border. The subject record marks it as a winter scene, when ice and spray could gather on the rocks and railings near the brink. The glass plate comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose views of American and Canadian landmarks were sold to travelers as prints and postcards in the years around 1900.
