Rather than a view of the building as it stood, this item is catalogued as a black-and-white copy of a design perspective of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., a drawing that shows the planned structure. The main building, now called the Thomas Jefferson Building, was begun in 1890 and opened in 1897 on Capitol Hill, and its ornate interiors drew wide attention. The record labels the drawing "Gothic," which does not match the building's Italian Renaissance and Beaux-Arts style, so the term may describe a different proposal or be a cataloging error worth checking.
