The only identification for this glass negative is the title "Jimmie Eschen (minor league)," which the record says comes from unverified data supplied by the Bain News Service. Bain's agency sold news pictures to newspapers from the early 1900s into the 1920s, and its sports images show ballplayers from an era when minor league teams made up much of professional baseball in small cities and towns. The negative is undated and the name is unconfirmed, so the player's career and the occasion remain unknown. The glass medium still helps place the picture, since glass negatives were common in press photography of that period.
