Titled simply "Food supplies," this negative is one of the safety-film sheets in the National Photo Company Collection, a body of work made in Washington, D.C., during the early twentieth century. Safety film, a cellulose-based stock, replaced the highly flammable nitrate film that had been standard, and its use is one reason these negatives survive in such numbers. The record dates the set to between 1910 and 1935, and it came to the Library as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French. Catalogers note possible streaks and blemishes from deterioration of the original coating, so the surface may look uneven.
