Low rent" is the message on this Cleveland poster, which promotes Woodhill Homes at 2567 Woodhill Road. Made in 1936 under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, it uses bold flat color in silkscreen so the appeal can be read at a glance. Woodhill was among the first public housing developments in the United States, and posters like this one helped the public understand what affordable homes could offer during the Depression. Federal Art Project artists produced many such posters for public agencies, turning civic information into everyday street art.
