Few holiday customs of the early 1910s were as lively as the turkey trot, and this postcard records one held in Cuero, a small town in DeWitt County, Texas. Dated 11/26/12, the card shows the event as something local people wanted to capture and send to friends and family. The name borrowed from the turkey trot dance craze then sweeping the country, and the Thanksgiving-morning race it described gave communities a chance to gather in the street before the holiday meal. Postcards like this one were a popular way to share local news in that era.
