The Boston Marathon has run each Patriots' Day since 1897, covering about 26 miles from Hopkinton to Boston's Back Bay. This 1981 color silkscreen by K.N. Martin turns that annual race into a bold graphic poster rather than a documentary image. It was published by Pro Creations Publishing Company of New Orleans, and its blind-stamped publisher mark identifies the commercial house behind it. Event posters like this were a common way to promote sporting events and cities in the 1980s. The men's race that year was won by Toshihiko Seko of Japan, a reminder of how international the field had become.
