Riveting, the hot-driven iron or steel pin work that joined girders, boilers and ship hulls, was among the most hazardous trades of the 1930s, and this poster addresses that danger directly with the blunt message "Work with care." It was produced under the Pennsylvania branch of the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project, which employed artists during the Depression and turned many of its safety and public-information posters into color woodcuts and silkscreens. The record gives a date of about 1936 or 1937, and a handstamp on the back reads March 27, 1937. Its inclusion in the Library of Congress WPA poster collection makes it a useful example of how New Deal artists applied graphic design to workplace safety.
