A five-pointed star, with one point still missing, makes the central appeal of this 1917 lithograph: each point stands for a Liberty Loan, and the viewer is asked to complete the star by buying bonds. The poster was issued by the Woman's Committee of the Liberty Loan Organization in the Seventh Federal Reserve District, which covered much of the Midwest around Chicago. The Liberty Loans were government bond drives that helped finance the United States' entry into World War I, and women volunteers were central to selling them door to door and at public events. The poster's pairing of a simple geometric symbol with a direct call to action reflects how wartime advertising tried to make financial support feel like a personal civic duty.
