A silkscreen poster from the Federal Art Project's Boston office promotes an exhibition drawn from the Index of American Design, a Works Progress Administration effort to record American folk and decorative objects. Its subjects include weather vanes and a figure of a Native American, a common motif in nineteenth-century vanes that drew on popular ideas of the frontier. The Index put artists to work producing careful renderings of such everyday objects, so the poster doubles as a record of the public outreach behind that documentation. A date stamp on the back indicates it was in circulation by April 1938.
