Sunny Idaho was one of the brand names printed on wooden-crate apple labels, a form of colorful lithograph pasted to shipping crates so that a grower's fruit stood out on crowded produce-car platforms and store shelves. Labels like this one were designed to sell a place as much as a product, using bright fruit, sunlit scenery and bold lettering to suggest freshness and quality. Many such labels were produced by commercial printers for packing houses and cooperatives, and they now serve as a record of how western growers marketed their orchards in the early twentieth century.
